DNV Petroleum Services / ALFA LAVAL TUMBA AB Course On Marine Fuel Oil Quality And Fuel Oil Treatment
|
The DNVPS/ALFA LAVAL Courses have been held annually since the late
1980’s. The vast majority of the participants have stated that the
course has been unique with regard to the subject matter. Based on
input from the participants, the course has been continuously modified
in order to improve and be of even more practical use. Today’s lecturers are senior DNV Petroleum Services and Alfa Laval
Tumba AB personnel with a high level of education and many years of
practical experience. The topics presented and discussed at the course are aimed at both
sea-going and shore-based staff, technical as well as operational. Within all the topics of the course we practically start from “square
one”, thus catering for participants having different background and
different levels of experience. The course covers a vast spectrum of fuel related problems, economical
as well as practical and is well suited for all personnel either to
be engaged in or already engaged in the daily fuel related business.
The topics are similarly useful to personnel already engaged in the
selling and purchasing of fuels, i.e. fuel suppliers, traders, brokers,
purchasers. Additionally, in the past, we have seen many participants from the
diesel engine manufacturers, power plants and insurance companies
and as such the discussions have included all parties involved in
the bunker chain, i.e. the engine builder, fuel supplier, fuel testing
service, fuel equipment manufacturer, the user, the ship operation
and sea-going staff, power plant operators and finally, the insurance
companies. Following topics will be discussed during the course; Crude oils- sources/compositions After the group work DNVPS will discuss the details on how to secure
representative samples of the fuel purchased and we will focus on
why it is so important to obtain proper evidence of the quality of
the product delivered. We will also discuss the sampling position,
with an emphasis of the sampling point; drawing of samples at the
point of custody transfer, acceptable to both buyer and seller. Other topics related to sampling are; Drawing of samples from ships tanks and the fuel system Later on Alfa Laval Tumba AB is making sure that everyone understands
the principals of on board fuel treatment; Capabilities of the fuel treatment plants A presentation of the new CWA (CEN Workshop Agreement) class standard
of Fuel Oil Treatment systems will also be given during the course.
The importance of having a separation performance standard will be
well discussed. A good part of the day is used for group work involving an actual
case history. The group will be divided into two sections and the
discussion will be taken from the point of view of; The operating office The main points addressed are; Should the fuel in question be used? ...followed by a presentation/discussion in plenary of the group’s
works. The course ends with a panel discussion between lecturers and participants. |
